EOCO seizes Shatta Wale’s Lamborghini in FBI-led probe

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has seized a Lamborghini Urus belonging to dancehall artiste Shatta Wale. The move is linked to an ongoing international financial crime investigation involving the United States.

The operation, carried out in June 2025 at his Trassaco Valley Phase 1 residence in Accra, followed a 2023 request by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice (DOJ). EOCO’s elite Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) executed the search as part of an asset-tracing mission tied to a convicted Ghanaian fraudster.

According to a press release signed by EOCO’s Acting Executive Director, Raymond Archer, the 2019 Lamborghini Urus was linked to Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently serving an 86-month sentence in the U.S. for orchestrating several financial crimes. Investigators say the luxury vehicle was purchased with proceeds from Amuah’s illicit schemes and eventually found its way into the possession of Shatta Wale.

The statement indicated that the search and seizure were carried out professionally and without incident. It further revealed that Shatta Wale had begged officers not to publicize the seizure, saying the vehicle was integral to his brand and public image. In response, EOCO allowed him to voluntarily hand over the car, which is now in the agency’s custody.

EOCO explained that it is standard protocol for SARU officers to be armed during such high-risk operations for safety reasons. Meanwhile, the FBI and the U.S. Justice Department are expected to submit a Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request to Ghana for the repatriation of the vehicle, which forms part of efforts to recover a $4.74 million restitution imposed on Amuah.

The crime office added that both Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of Ghana’s National Signals Bureau (NSB) have been designated as persons of interest in the ongoing probe and will soon be invited to assist with investigations.

EOCO says it may share the final investigation report with American authorities in line with ongoing law enforcement cooperation between Ghana and the United States.
