CONFEX pays tribute to Omane Boamah, Muntala and six others

The Coalition of NDC Former Executives (CONFEX) has joined the nation in mourning the tragic loss of eight distinguished Ghanaians who perished in the military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
In a statement issued on August 8, the group said, “These were not just passengers on a mission—they were patriots on a journey to uplift Ghana through the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (RCOMSDEP). Their lives were emblematic of service, sacrifice, and vision.”
CONFEX said it honours Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, “a tireless advocate for national security reform and peacebuilding” who “championed the modernization of the Ghana’s armed forces and regional stability.”
The tribute described Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, as “a bold voice in Parliament and a veritable advocate for climate resilience and sustainable development” who “led transformative policies on green innovation and environmental justice.”
On Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, CONFEX called him “a strategic thinker in food systems and national security” who “bridged agriculture and governance with integrity and foresight.”
Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC and former Ashanti Regional Minister, was remembered as “a grassroots mobilizer and regional development architect” whose legacy “lives on in the empowerment of communities across Ashanti and beyond.”
Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Former Member of Parliament and NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East, was described as “a passionate advocate for mining communities and youth employment” who “stood for inclusive growth and local representation.”
On Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala of the Ghana Air Force, the statement called him “a decorated officer and aviation expert” who “embodied courage and professionalism in service in Ghana’s skies.”
Flying Officer Malin Twum-Ampadu of the Ghana Air Force was hailed as “a rising star in military aviation” who “represented the future of Ghana’s defense capabilities with discipline and promise.”
Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah of the Ghana Air Force was remembered as “a committed serviceman whose quiet strength and loyalty uplifted his unit and inspired his peers.”
“This tragedy is a national wound. These eight heroes were united by purpose, driven by duty, and lost in the line of service. Their passing leaves a void in our institutions, our communities, and our hearts,” the statement added.
The group ended with a message of deepest condolences to the bereaved families, the Government of Ghana, and all citizens, saying, “We stand in solemn solidarity with President John Dramani Mahama’s declaration of national mourning, and we echo the call for unity, reflection, and resolve. May their souls rest in perfect peace. May their legacies guide our steps toward a more just, secure, and compassionate Ghana. And may their memories forever echo in the corridors of our national story. In mourning, in memory, in resolve—CONFEX stands with Ghana, the Party, and the bereaved families.”
The fatal incident occurred near Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on the morning of August 6, 2025. The aircraft, a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter, was en route from Accra to Obuasi when it lost contact shortly after take-off. Government has since ordered flags to fly at half-mast in honour of the deceased and declared three days of national mourning. Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces and other state agencies are collaborating on investigations to determine the cause of the crash.
