August 20, 2025, is exactly 10 years since the presidential press corps in Ghana had a terrible accident on the Akosombo-Tema road.
One person died on the spot, whilst the rest sustained various degrees of injury. The press corps were returning to Accra from Ho when their vehicle burst a tyre and somersaulted into the nearby bush.
When the accident vehicle stabilized, it was discovered that one person was missing. Further searches found Ghanaian Times reporter, Samuel Nuamah, dead under the Ford bus.
In the picture attached to this memorial story, Samuel Nuamah is to the right, and to the left is Napoleon Ato Kittoe of Ghana Television. Incidentally, on the fateful day of the accident, the two sat on the same seat, underscoring their close friendship. Napoleon sustained a gushing injury near his left eye.
In 2020, one of the accident victims, TV3’s Edward Kwabi, whose thigh bone got broken also died. It is, however, not known whether he died from his injury five years later.
It will be recalled that in the heat of the moment on August 20, 2015, the Government dispatched a military helicopter to airlift the victims to Accra for emergency medical attention.
