Fellow Comrades,
On the occasion of my birthday today, I take a humble but resolute step to announce my intention to contest for the position of Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region.
My political journey is a long story of loyalty, learning, and leadership. From my days as Senior Boys Prefect at Begoro Secondary School, I learned that leadership is not about status, but about service. That conviction has guided me since 1992, when I joined the cadres of the revolution, contributing to the formative years of the NDC — a party whose values have become inseparable from my identity.
From Branch Secretary to Constituency Secretary in Fanteakwa, I have walked every level of our great party’s structure. I also served two terms as Assembly Member, grounding my leadership in grassroots governance and accountability.
Beyond the party, I have served my country through multiple national assignments — from training in Parliament as a Trainee Reporter, to serving at the National Reconciliation Commission as a Verbatim Reporter, where truth and integrity were the foundation of my duty. I further sharpened my communication skills as a political reporter with the Daily Searchlight, and later served as Special Assistant to Hon. (Dr.) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, then National Organizer of our great party.
I also served as Project Coordinator of The Ark Foundation, Ghana, where my work focused on empowering grassroots communities to identify and prioritize their needs, engage duty bearers, and take active roles in local development. That experience deepened my belief that sustainable progress begins from the bottom — where the people’s voices shape the agenda.
I was later honoured to serve as District Chief Executive for Fanteakwa under the late President Prof. J.E.A. Mills and President John Dramani Mahama. During my tenure, we implemented policies that became national models — from the Apprenticeship Training Programme and Disability Inclusion Policy to Tourism Development Projects that earned national recognition.
Our Apprenticeship Training Programme supported young people who could not enter second-cycle schools by paying for their training and providing them with start-up tools. This initiative was later adopted by the NDC and became a major manifesto promise of the party. Indeed, Fanteakwa under my leadership set the pace — and the nation followed.
We also established the first District-owned radio station in Ghana, bridging the communication gap between governance and the people. A Daily Graphic reporter later described Fanteakwa as a model District Assembly — and truly, it was.
What gives me the greatest joy, however, is the young men and women I mentored — those who today stand as strong pillars of the NDC in both Fanteakwa North and South. Our shared sacrifices in the 2008, 2012, and 2016 campaigns remind me that the future of our party belongs to a generation tested and trusted through hard work.
My activism on social media has also given many young comrades the opportunity to find their voice — to speak boldly for the NDC on national issues and to participate meaningfully in political discourse.
Today, as several members of our Regional Executive move on to national assignments, the Eastern Region stands at a turning point. It needs a professional Secretary — bilingual, efficient, and politically grounded. It needs leadership that combines experience with innovation, loyalty with strategy, and communication with coordination.
That is the leadership I offer —
A Bilingual Secretary by Profession,
A Parliamentary/Verbatim Reporter by Training,
A Politician by Experience, and a Journalist by Practice.
Inshaa Allah, I am ready to bring to the Eastern Region NDC a new era of discipline, professionalism, and dynamism. I will work with every comrade, young and old, to build a united, coordinated, and victorious NDC in the Eastern Region.
As I mark another year of life, I dedicate it not to personal celebration but to public service.
May Allah guide this journey, bless our party, and grant us victory in unity.
Comradely yours,
Abass Fuseini Sbaabe
