Abronye retains Bono NPP chairmanship, targets 11 seats lost to NDC

Kwame Baffour Abronye has been re-elected as the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), securing 201 votes in the party’s regional delegates election.

A total of 281 delegates participated in the election, giving Abronye a fresh mandate to lead the party in the region as it begins preparations towards the 2028 general elections.

In his victory speech, Abronye pledged to unite the various factions within the party and work with all the candidates who contested the chairmanship position to strengthen the NPP’s electoral prospects.

He said his immediate priority would be to develop a strategy to reclaim the 11 parliamentary seats the party lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 general elections.

Abronye warned the NDC not to take the NPP’s defeat in the previous election for granted, insisting that the party would return to the political contest with a renewed strategy.

“I have the strategy to deal with the NDC,” he said, while expressing gratitude to the delegates for giving him another opportunity to lead the party.

He said the support from the delegates would motivate him and the newly elected regional executives to work harder to restore the NPP’s fortunes in the Bono Region.

Abronye further called for unity among party members, emphasising the need for all contestants and supporters to put the internal competition behind them and focus on the broader objective of winning 2028 genersl elections.

Meanwhile, the newly elected Regional Communication Officer, Fahad Usman, has promised to improve the capacity of the party’s communication team across the Bono Region.

Fahad said communication officers would be adequately resourced and trained to enable them to effectively communicate the NPP’s message and respond to political developments ahead of the 2028 elections.

He noted that a strong and well-prepared communication structure would be essential to the party’s efforts to reconnect with voters and regain lost constituencies.

The Chairperson of the elections committee, Jennifer Oforiwaa Queen, commended delegates for ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

She said the peaceful conduct of the election was a positive indication of the NPP’s readiness to reorganise and prepare for the 2028 general elections.

According to her, the successful completion of the exercise provides the party with an opportunity to focus on rebuilding its structures and strengthening unity at the regional and constituency levels.
