NPP confirms Regional Chairmen in 15 Regions as Western North election awaits

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has successfully elected regional chairmen in 15 out of the country’s 16 regions following a series of regional delegates’ conferences held across Ghana.

The Western North Region remains the only region yet to elect its chairman, with the election scheduled for August 16, 2026.

The outcomes of the elections have seen several experienced party figures and new leaders entrusted with the responsibility of steering the affairs of the party at the regional level as it prepares for future political contests.

In the Western Region, delegates elected Ignatius Kwasi Africa as Regional Chairman, while Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana emerged victorious in the Savannah Region.

In the Bono Region, incumbent chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, retained his position after securing a decisive victory.

Former Minister of Health and former Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku, Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, was elected Regional Chairman in the Greater Accra Region.

In the Ashanti Region, delegates overwhelmingly endorsed Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, to lead the party’s regional executive team.

The Eastern Region elected former General Secretary Jeff Konadu Addo as Regional Chairman, while Joseph Kobinah Esibu secured victory in the Central Region.

In the Ahafo Region, former Member of Parliament Robert Sarfo Mensah emerged as chairman after winning the delegates’ mandate.

In the Northern Region, Mohammed Baatima Adam, also known as Samba, won the chairmanship race, while Alhaji Mohammed Fuseini was elected chairman for the North East Region.

The Upper East Region chose Elvis Awonekai Figo as its new regional chairman, with Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman securing victory in the Upper West Region.

The Volta Region elected Makafui Kofi Woanya to lead the party’s affairs, while Dr Frank Yirenkyi was elected chairman in the Oti Region. In the Bono East Region, delegates voted Ibrahim Bukari Baba into office as regional chairman.

The regional elections form part of the NPP’s ongoing reorganisation efforts aimed at strengthening its structures from the grassroots to the national level following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Attention now turns to the Western North Region, where delegates are expected to elect their regional chairman on August 16, completing the party’s nationwide regional executive elections.
