Akufo-Addo-Bawumia govt lacks integrity, transparency, and accountability – Mahama

Presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has strongly criticized President Akufo-Addo’s administration, accusing it of significantly lacking integrity, transparency, and accountability.
Speaking at the NDC’s governance forum in Accra, Mr. Mahama emphasized the government’s refusal to take responsibility for the economic hardships afflicting Ghanaians.
According to him, Ghana has reached a critical juncture due to poor governance, with 870,000 people falling below the poverty line and 1.7 million Ghanaians being multidimensionally poor under the current administration. Mahama emphasized the need for collective effort to address Ghana’s challenges and ensure a brighter future for the nation.
Mahama pointed to the dramatic surge in national debt from GH¢120 billion in 2016 to a staggering GH¢767 billion in 2024, with hardly any substantial improvements to show for it.
He also expressed concern over the government’s actions that compelled the Central Bank to print over GH¢70 billion, a move he correlated with the Bank of Ghana experiencing losses exceeding GH¢60 billion.
“This government lacks integrity, transparency, and accountability. It will not accept responsibility for the hardships it has foisted on our society. It still believes and insists it is not responsible for the damage to our economy.”
“Thank you, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, for accepting to join me for this Governance Forum. This evening, I want to speak about Governance! I am moved to speak about governance because the way we administer governance in our dear country has brought Ghana to a crossroads.
“Injustice is eating our society away as our economy inflicts untold hardships on millions of suffering Ghanaians.”
