Apologize or face contempt of Parliament – Anatu Bogobiri Esq to Fatima Abubakar

A legal practitioner, Anatu Bogobiri Esq has called on the former Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar to apologize to the Majority in Parliament over the English language comment.
“Her suggestion that the majority in Parliament appears as a minority due to challenges with the English language is a blatant disrespect to the institution of Parliament and contemptuous!
“As a non-member of Parliament, Fatimatu Abubakar’s assertion is puzzling, especially considering that Parliamentary Working Committees are yet to be formed”, the legal practitioner indicated in brief statement.
She continued: “Therefore, her conclusion is contemptuous of Parliament, and I hope the Parliament of Ghana will cite her for contempt.”
Below is the full statement
Hon. Fatimatu Abubakar should either offer a sincere apology to the Parliamentary majority or face contempt of Parliament.
I strongly condemn the recent remarks made by Fatimatu Abubakar, the former Deputy Minister for Information. Her suggestion that the majority in Parliament appears as a minority due to challenges with the English language is a blatant disrespect to the institution of Parliament and contemptuous!
As a non-member of Parliament, Fatimatu Abubakar’s assertion is puzzling, especially considering that Parliamentary Working Committees are yet to be formed.
Therefore, her conclusion is contemptuous of Parliament, and I hope the Parliament of Ghana will cite her for contempt.
This incident draws similarity with the recent invitation extended to Lawyer Oliver Barker to explain similar statements deemed contemptuous of Parliament. Similarly, Fatimatu Abubakar must be held accountable for her words.
I urge her to either offer an unqualified apology to the majority in Parliament or face an invitation to explain her contemptuous statement.
It’s crucial to uphold the dignity of Parliament, as each member represents their constituency. Hence, disparaging remarks like these have far-reaching consequences, affecting not only the members but also their constituents
Anatu Bogobiri Esq.
