Asokore Mampong: 19-year-old jailed 15 years for robbery, cutlass attack

A 19-year-old man, Ahmed Mustapha, has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after pleading guilty to robbery and causing harm to a 25-year-old man at Asabi in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

Mustapha was arrested on July 21, 2026, by the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team following information that a man had been attacked and robbed of his mobile phone near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the suspect attempted to flee and hide in an incomplete building when the patrol team arrived at the scene.

He was pursued and arrested by the officers, who retrieved a mobile phone belonging to the victim and a cutlass suspected to have been used in the attack.

The victim sustained cutlass wounds to his forehead, neck, and left hand. He was rushed to the KNUST Hospital for treatment and later regained consciousness. He was reported to be in stable condition.

Mustapha was arraigned before the Asokwa Circuit Court on July 27, 2026, where he pleaded guilty to both robbery and causing harm.

The court, presided over by Her Honour Vida Achiaa Yeboah, subsequently remanded him into police custody to reappear for sentencing.

On August 10, 2026, Mustapha was brought before the same court and was convicted and sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
