Bee attack leaves two learners dead at Anloga E.P. Basic School

A bee attack at Anloga E.P. Basic School has left two learners dead and 28 others injured, according to the Ghana Education Service.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) confirmed that the incident occurred on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, when a swarm of bees attacked members of the school community, triggering panic and injuries during attempts to evacuate learners.
In a statement issued on Friday, December 19, and signed by Head of Public Relations Daniel Fenyi, the Service said a total of 30 persons were affected, including teachers, school feeding cooks and learners.
“The report indicates that a total of thirty persons were affected,” the statement said. “These include five teachers who were stung while attempting to rescue learners, three school feeding cooks, and twenty-two learners, two of whom have sadly lost their lives.”
GES described the incident as tragic and extended sympathies to families who lost their children as a result of the attack.
“Management extends its deepest condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families in this difficult time,” the statement noted.
It added that victims who sustained injuries are receiving support and care as part of ongoing recovery efforts.
“With regard to victims who sustained varying degrees of injuries, Management wishes them a speedy recovery and assures them of the Service’s full support throughout the recovery process,” GES said.
The Service also acknowledged the role played by emergency responders and community members in limiting further casualties.
“Management expresses sincere gratitude to the teachers, officials of the Ghana National Fire Service, and community members whose swift intervention helped to salvage the situation,” the statement added.
GES said measures are already being implemented to prevent a recurrence, with inter-agency collaboration underway to address the underlying cause of the attack.
“The GES is working closely with the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), and the District Chief Executive to completely eliminate the habitat of the bees,” the statement said, adding that preventive measures are also being put in place.
