Black Memorial Grounds: Mahama, Gyakye Quayson engage Mayor of New York City

The President of the Republic of Ghana, HE John Dramani Mahama, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, held a significant engagement with the Mayor of New York City at the historic Black Memorial Grounds.
On March 24, 2026, the high-level meeting formed part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations and deepen cooperation between Ghana and the United States, particularly at the city level. Discussions centred on economic partnerships, diaspora engagement, cultural exchange, and investment opportunities that would mutually benefit both nations.
A key highlight of the meeting was the shared commitment to recognizing and preserving the legacy of people of African descent. The Black Memorial Grounds served as a symbolic venue, reinforcing the importance of history, identity, and the enduring ties between Africa and its diaspora.
Hon James Gyakye Quayson emphasized Ghana’s dedication to fostering stronger international partnerships and leveraging diaspora connections to drive national development. He noted that engagements such as this create avenues for trade expansion, tourism growth, and collaborative initiatives in education and technology.
The Mayor of New York City also reaffirmed the city’s readiness to work closely with Ghana in areas of business development, cultural promotion, and community engagement, especially considering the vibrant Ghanaian community in the city
