Breaking News: Agradaa released from prison

Controversial televangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa, made her first public appearance today, Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
This follows her release from Nsawam Female Prison in the Eastern Region.
Agradaa’s lawyer, Richard Asare Baffour, had earlier confirmed in an interview with Channel One TV on Friday, February 27, that she would be released on March 3, 2026, after a successful appeal and a remission under Ghana’s prison scheme. “Her release is part of a remission programme for Ghanaian prisoners, which allows inmates to be released after serving two-thirds of their custodial sentence,” he explained.
The televangelist was originally sentenced to 15 years in prison by an Accra Circuit Court on July 3, 2025. She had been convicted on two counts of defrauding by false pretences and one count of charlatanic advertisement in connection with a 2022 church service. Authorities said she had allegedly claimed money-doubling powers, promoting them on radio and television, and lured many Ghanaians into handing over sums of money that were never returned.
Following her sentencing, Agradaa was incarcerated at Nsawam Female Prison, with her sentence counted from the day of sentencing. She subsequently appealed the decision, arguing that the trial process was unfair, the evidence did not support the verdict, and that the 15-year sentence was excessive. She regularly attended hearings at the Amasaman Circuit Court during her appeal process.
On February 5, 2026, Agradaa appeared at the Amasaman High Court for the appeal ruling. After several hours of proceedings, the court reduced her sentence from 15 years to 12 months for counts two and three. In addition, she was fined 200 penalty units (GH₵2,400) and ordered to refund GH₵1,000 to her two complainants, alongside other fines related to count one. Reports indicate that the court described her original 15-year sentence as “harsh and excessive,” while affirming her convictions but exercising discretion to vary the punishment.
Agradaa’s release marks the end of a high-profile legal saga that drew nationwide attention, with her followers and critics alike watching closely as she stepped back into public life.
