Bright Mensah Bonsu arrested over alleged $1.5m diplomatic property scam – Ablakwa

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that the Ghanaian security operatives have apprehended Bright Mensah Bonsu, the individual at the center of a $1.5 million diplomatic property scandal involving Ghana’s High Commission in Nigeria.
According to Ablakwa, Mensah Bonsu claimed to be a “special aide” to the late Alhaji Rashid Bawa, Ghana’s former High Commissioner to Nigeria.
The scandal revolves around the attempted sale of a prime Lagos beachfront diplomatic property valued at $5.3 million. Mensah Bonsu and his collaborators allegedly received $1.5 million as the first installment, but the funds were not paid into any official government account, nor were they recorded at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“We got him!” declared Minister Ablakwa in a statement, confirming the arrest.
“This latest significant development should send clear assurances to Nigerian government officials and the Nigerian attempted buyer who have all desperately petitioned the Mahama government demanding our intervention, that consistent with what we have always said, we take this matter very seriously and will do everything in our power to bring the notorious criminals to justice and recover the US$1.5million.”
Ablakwa emphasized that the government is determined to bring those involved to justice and recover the lost funds, reassuring that no diplomatic property belonging to the people of Ghana is for sale.
