Chamber of Mines engages Adamus, regulators over revocation of three mining leases

The Ghana Chamber of Mines has begun engagements with Adamus Resources Limited and relevant regulatory authorities following the decision to uphold the revocation of the company’s Akango, Salman and Nkroful mining leases.
The decision was taken by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources following a report by a Ministerial Review Committee on a petition filed by Adamus Resources, according to the Chamber.
In a statement, the Chamber said it recognised the mandate of the government and relevant regulatory institutions to enforce Ghana’s mining laws and ensure responsible, safe and environmentally sustainable mining.
However, it stressed that the enforcement of mining laws must be accompanied by due process, fairness and regulatory certainty.
“The Chamber believes that adherence to the rule of law, due process, fairness, regulatory certainty and the consistent application of the law is fundamental to maintaining confidence in Ghana’s mining industry.”
The Chamber said it is engaging Adamus and the relevant regulators to fully understand the circumstances, findings and processes that led to the decision.
“Given the significance of the matter, the Chamber is engaging Adamus Resources Limited and the relevant regulatory authorities to obtain a full understanding of the circumstances, findings and processes underlying the decision.”
It also raised concerns about the potential impact of the revocation on workers, contractors, host communities and legitimate investments.
The Chamber said it was particularly mindful of the need to safeguard workers and their livelihoods, contractors, host communities and legitimate investments while ensuring that Ghana’s laws and regulatory requirements are respected.
It has therefore urged all parties to continue using Ghana’s established legal and regulatory processes to resolve any outstanding matters.
The Chamber said it would allow the ongoing engagements and processes to proceed before commenting further on the substantive issues surrounding the revocation.
