Chief of Staff supports Keta MP during late mother’s funeral

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, represented President John Dramani Mahama at Anlo-Afiadenyigba for the final funeral rites of Presbyter Henrietta Atsufui Avuglah on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
He was joined by the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, the Volta Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mawutor Agbavitor, the leadership of the ruling NDC, and other dignitaries.
The late Presbyter Henrietta Atsufui Avuglah was the mother of Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, Member of Parliament for Keta.
In Parliament, Mr. Gakpey serves as Vice Chairperson of the Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs Committee. He is also a Member of the Committee of Selection, Deputy Ranking Member of the Public Accounts Committee, and a Member of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee.
The ceremony was solemn yet dignified, drawing family members, friends, traditional authorities, clergy, and sympathisers from across the country. The gathering celebrated a life devoted to faith, service, and community.
Presbyter Avuglah, who died at the age of 76, was widely respected for her dedication to church work and the firm moral foundation she imparted to her children and many others whose lives she touched.
On behalf of the people of the Volta Region, Mr. Gunu conveyed condolences to the bereaved family, particularly to Mr. Gakpey, his siblings, and the extended Gakpey and Avuglah families.
“The loss of a mother leaves a deep void, and we share in their grief during this difficult time,” the Regional Minister said.
He noted that the massive turnout underscored the esteem in which the late Presbyter was held. Describing the show of solidarity as remarkable, he added that “it was a powerful reminder that when one of us mourns, we all stand together.”
The presence of senior government officials and party leaders highlighted the close bond between the late church worker’s family and the wider community, as tributes reflected her enduring impact on both church and society.
