Conditions of Service Negotiations: Treat teachers with respect – Dr. Apaak to Gov’t

The deputy ranking Member of the Education Committee in Parliament, Dr. Clement Apaak says the government must show teachers some respect for their concerns.
This follows the Teacher Unions issuing a warning over how the government is treating them during negotiations on their conditions of service.
In a strong-worded statement issued by three Teacher Unions, they served a notice to the government not to blame them for any brouhaha on the pre-tertiary front.
“All these while, our negotiations have not achieved any meaningful outcome. More disappointing is the fact that the Government Team does not seem to have the requisite mandate to respond adequately to our demands.
“In the light of the above situation, we would like to caution the general public and the government that in the event of any brouhaha at the Pre-tertiary level, Teacher Union Leaders must not be blamed,” the Unions stated.
In a tweet, the Builsa South Member of Parliament indicated that teachers have been demanding for better conditions of service many years now therefore the government must respond with respect.
“The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government must show some respect to teachers. Why would gov’t send persons with no mandate to address the demands of the teachers to negotiation meetings?
“Tertiary Teacher Unions such as UTAG complained about the same attitude the Pre-tertiary Teacher Unions were complaining about last year,” the deputy ranking member stated.
