Lordina working to build you a hospital soon – Mahama to Nsawam inmates

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to build a hospital for inmates at Nsawam Prison to improve healthcare access and overall living conditions.
The President made the announcement on Saturday during a visit to the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, where members of the Ringway Gospel Centre Assemblies of God donated assorted food items to prisoners.
He revealed that the project would be undertaken in collaboration with the First Lady, Lordina Mahama, whom he noted has been actively involved in healthcare-related initiatives across the country.
“Also we are going to build a nice hospital and stock it with medical equipment. I’m doing this with Lordina Mahama. I’m sure you’ve heard she’s been building hospitals so she told the Director General that we will be building one here so we can equip the facility. This will ensure that when you’re sick, you can be taken care of,” he told inmates.
The President further outlined plans to expand infrastructure within the prison, including the construction of a remand facility to address overcrowding challenges.
In addition to the healthcare and detention infrastructure, he indicated that recreational facilities would also be introduced to improve inmate welfare and rehabilitation.
“Further, we will be opening a remand prison and I’ve told the Director General we will build an astroturf and also a basketball court and a volleyball court as well,” he added.
The inmates responded with cheers and applause as the Commander-in-Chief detailed the planned interventions, expressing optimism that the initiatives would significantly improve conditions at the facility.
The visit formed part of broader efforts to engage with correctional institutions and support rehabilitation.
