NHIA paid GH¢220 million in health claims this week – Deputy NHIA Boss

Deputy Chief Executive for Finance and Investments, Anatu Anne Seidu Bogobiri, has disclosed that the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) paid GH¢220 million in health insurance claims to service providers this week,

Madam Bogobiri said the payment reflected improvements in claims settlement following the uncapping of the National Health Insurance Fund by the John Dramani Mahama administration.

“Since President John Dramani Mahama uncapped the NHI Fund, the NHIA now pays claims timely and effectively – just this Wednesday, I paid about GH¢220 million to Health Providers, and claims are paid every month ending.”

She made the disclosure while addressing members of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) at the University of Ghana Homecoming as a Special Guest Speaker.

She reflected on her journey from student activism to public service and encouraged young people to embrace leadership rooted in service.

Madam Bogobiri said her experience in TEIN had shaped her approach to leadership at the NHIA, where decisions are centred on expanding access to healthcare and improving confidence in the National Health Insurance Scheme.

She noted that key questions guiding the Authority’s work include expanding membership access, ensuring timely reimbursement of health providers and making health insurance accessible to ordinary Ghanaians, including market women, students and farmers.

The Deputy Chief Executive also highlighted government interventions in the health sector, describing the Free Primary Healthcare initiative and Mahama Care as evidence of ongoing reforms aimed at improving healthcare delivery across the country.

“The Free Primary Healthcare and the Mahama Care are all evident of the success in the health sector by the John Dramani Mahama-led government.”

Madam Bogobiri urged the students to prepare themselves for leadership by developing skills in public speaking, policy advocacy and accountability, stressing that the nation needed young people who would offer practical solutions to national challenges while upholding integrity and service.
