Death of Kusasi chief: Ashanti REGSEC announces emergency security measures

The Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council has rolled out a series of emergency security measures following the fatal shooting of Alhaji Abdul-Malik Azenbe.
In a statement dated Thursday, July 25, 2025, and signed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Council expressed its deepest condolences to the family of the late chief, who was killed in a shocking incident on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.
The Regional Security Council (REGSEC) convened an emergency meeting on Wednesday, July 24, to assess the unfolding security situation and determine immediate response actions following the murder.
REGSEC, after the meeting, resolved to implement strict interventions to maintain public order and prevent further escalation. The Council announced that motorbikes shall not be permitted on any roads in the region after 7:00 p.m. each day until further notice. Additionally, the use of unlicensed motorbikes or those operating without lights has been strictly prohibited.
Furthermore, the Council directed that the ongoing inter-tribal football competition be suspended with immediate effect until further notice, citing security concerns. It also announced that motorbike riders will not be permitted to wear smocks until further notice, indicating that such clothing has increasingly become a means for suspects to conceal weapons.
The statement emphasized that REGSEC will increase security presence in hotspot areas through the deployment of both Police and Military personnel. The aim is to ensure peace, protect lives and property, and reassure the general public in the wake of the disturbing attack.
The Council further assured the public of the government’s firm commitment to law and order and the fostering of a peaceful society. It noted that all necessary measures are being implemented to ensure that the perpetrators of what it described as a heinous act are brought to justice.
REGSEC also urged the public to support the ongoing investigations. The Council stated that the doors of the Security Services remain open to receive any credible information that can assist in identifying and apprehending those responsible for the crime.
“The REGSEC remains ready and committed to serving the public in line with its mandate,” the statement concluded.
