Discipline, compassion virtues of Ramadan – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has urged Muslims to embrace discipline and compassion as central virtues of the holy month of Ramadan.
In a Ramadan message dated February 19, 2026, the President extended warm greetings to the Muslim community as they prepare to begin the sacred period of fasting and reflection.
President Mahama noted that beyond abstaining from food and drink, the essence of the month lies in moral and spiritual growth.
He stressed that “the true beauty of Ramadan lies not just in abstaining from food, but in the discipline, compassion, and generosity we show to all, especially to those less fortunate.”
“Ramadan is truly a special time; a month of reflection, renewal, and coming together as one community.”
He encouraged Muslims to use the period to strengthen their faith and relationships with others.
“May your hearts be purified and your imān strengthened,” he stated, adding, “May Allah, the Most Merciful, grant you good health, peace of mind, and abundant mercies throughout these thirty days.”
The President also called for unity and peaceful coexistence across the country during the fasting season.
“Let us use this holy month to strengthen the bonds of unity, love, and peace in our communities and across our beloved Ghana,” he said.
As families gather each evening to break their fast, President Mahama reminded them to reflect on the deeper meaning of the observance and to extend kindness to the vulnerable in society.
He concluded his message with prayers and well wishes to the Muslim faithful, saying, “Ramadan Mubarak! May Allah accept your worship.”
