‘Don’t wait for opposition to define NHIS’ – Anatu Bogobiri charges NDC communicators

The Deputy Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Anatu Seidu Bogobiri Esq., has urged NDC communicators to take the lead in communicating the achievements of the Mahama administration, particularly in the health sector.

She said communicators must use facts, data, and evidence to shape public discourse instead of waiting for the opposition to define government policies.

Madam Bogobiri Esq. made the call as a guest speaker at the Upper East Regional Communicators Workshop on August 15, 2026.

She urged communicators to use their limited media time to highlight concrete government achievements rather than spend lengthy periods on greetings and formalities.

“Comrades, instead of this long list of greetings, why don’t we use that first 30 seconds to enumerate and outline the achievements of this government? On Health, NHIS, Roads, Education, Extraordinary profit made by TOR, etc, especially the efforts here in our region?”

She also called for consistent repetition of the government’s achievements to ensure that citizens become familiar with its policies.

“Comrades, let us repeat our achievements morning, afternoon, and evening in our intro and closing remarks until they become songs on the lips of our people.”

Citing the National Health Insurance Scheme, the NHIA Deputy CEO said the uncapping of the National Health Insurance Fund under President John Dramani Mahama had contributed to improvements in the scheme

She said the government had, by April 2025, paid about GH¢953 million in outstanding claims arrears owed to health service providers, while the NHIA had continued making monthly claims payments.

According to her, about GH¢1.4 billion in claims had been paid between January and July 2026.

She further said active NHIS membership had increased from 54 per cent at the end of 2024 to 66 per cent at the end of 2025 and 76 per cent as of June 2026.

Madan Bogobiri Esq. also highlighted the rollout of Free Primary Health Care and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Care, as key interventions communicators should promote.

She urged communicators to respond to criticism with evidence rather than become defensive.

“Just show the data! Show the investment! Show the reset in action! Just show them the DOCUMENTS!”

Madam Bogobirir also urged them to take a proactive approach to communication and prevent political opponents from setting the agenda on government policies.

“Don’t wait for the opposition to define NHIS.???? Tell the success stories FIRST!!!. Flood your constituencies with the truth!!!.”

The NHIA Deputy CEO further encouraged communicators to use local languages and relatable examples while linking local interventions to the national Reset Agenda.

“Speak in Gurune, in Kusaal, in the language of the market….But tie it to the national Reset Agenda.”

She reminded the communicators that they were at the frontline of communicating government policies and urged them to make the achievements of the administration visible to Ghanaians.
