Mahama gov’t is working; let’s communicate achievements boldly – NHIA Deputy CEO to NDC communicators

The Deputy Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Anatu Seidu Bogobiri Esq., has urged NDC communicators to take the lead in promoting the achievements of the Mahama administration and defending its Reset Agenda with facts and data.

She said communicators must move beyond reacting to criticism and instead proactively shape public discourse by highlighting tangible government interventions.

Speaking to NDC communication officers in the Upper East Region on Saturday, August 15, 2026, Madam Bogobiri Esq. described communication as a critical tool in shaping public understanding of government policies.

“To me, communication is not PR or propaganda! To me, COMMUNICATION is POWER!!!!,” she said.

According to her, the Reset Agenda was not merely a slogan but a commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians through tangible interventions.

She said government achievements would not automatically speak for themselves and urged communicators to deliberately tell the stories behind policies and projects.

She warned that misinformation could quickly undermine public confidence in government programmes, particularly in the digital space.

“Our political terrain is digital, and it is unforgiving.!! Misinformation travels from Bolgatanga to Accra in 2 minutes. For example, a single false post about NHIS can erase one(1) year of hard work by the NHIA!”

She, therefore, charged communicators to be “RAPID,” “FACTUAL” and “FEARLESS” in responding to misinformation.

Citing the NHIS, Madam Bogobiri Esq. said the uncapping of the National Health Insurance Fund under President John Dramani Mahama had contributed to improvements in the scheme.

According to her, the government had, by April 2025, cleared about GH¢953 million in outstanding claims arrears owed to health service providers, while the NHIA had continued with monthly claims payments

She added that about GH¢1.4 billion in claims had been paid between January and July 2026.

The NHIA Deputy CEO also highlighted the increase in active NHIS membership, the rollout of Free Primary Health Care, and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Care, as key interventions communicators should promote.

“All these are achievements we should shout on the rooftops for Ghanaians to know… and not just to know? But to make good use of these policy interventions to their benefit!”

She urged communicators not to become defensive when the government is criticised but to respond with evidence.

“Just show the data! Show the investment! Show the reset in action! Just show them the DOCUMENTS!”

She also called for a unified approach among NDC communicators, urging them to lead conversations on government policies instead of allowing the opposition to set the agenda.
