Ex-NPP parliamentary candidate faces attempted homicide charges in U.S

Valentini Nii Noi Nortey, a former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Klottey Korle, has been charged in the United States following an alleged domestic stabbing incident.
According to court documents, the 41-year-old Harrisburg resident faces multiple serious charges, including Attempted Homicide (Felony 1), Possession of an Instrument of Crime (Misdemeanor 1), and Tampering with Evidence (Misdemeanor 2). The charges stem from an alleged stabbing involving his wife, which authorities describe as part of a domestic dispute.
The incident reportedly occurred around 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026, along Mayfair Drive in Lower Paxton Township, Pennsylvania, according to the Lower Paxton Township Police. Police confirmed that first responders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where she is now in stable condition. Authorities emphasized that there was no danger to the public following the incident.
A report by abc27.com indicated that the stabbing was not a random act of violence but rather linked to a domestic argument, highlighting the ongoing concerns around domestic safety. Police investigations are continuing to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident.
Court records show that Nortey was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge David Judy, who denied him bail. He remains held at Dauphin County Prison, awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for January 26, 2026. The arraignment and bail denial underscore the severity of the charges, particularly the allegation of attempted homicide, which carries significant legal consequences in the United States.
Nortey, who previously contested parliamentary elections for the Klottey Korle constituency under the NPP, has not publicly commented on the incident. It remains unclear whether he has legal representation in the U.S. or if he intends to contest the charges.
This case comes amid growing awareness of domestic violence incidents in the U.S., with law enforcement agencies emphasizing that victims should seek immediate help and that offenders will face strict legal action. Authorities continue to investigate, and the community has been advised to stay informed but assured that there is no threat to public safety at this time.
As the legal process unfolds, the international attention on Nortey’s case highlights the complex issues surrounding domestic violence and the responsibilities of public figures both at home and abroad.
