GES takes swift action on newly posted teachers’ concerns

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has taken swift action to address the concerns of newly posted teachers who picketed at its Headquarters earlier today.

The teachers, who reported for post in September 2024, were expressing frustration over delays in the issuance of Staff IDs and payment of salaries.

“We acknowledge and deeply empathise with the concerns of our newly posted teachers,” said the GES in a press statement, signed by the GES Public Relations Officer, Daniel Fenyi. “Their welfare is a top priority, and we are committed to resolving this issue swiftly and equitably.”

According to the GES, the current management inherited the challenge of an expired financial clearance, which directly impacted the timely processing of the teachers’ salaries.

However, the Service has been working diligently to secure a new financial clearance, and the Ministry of Finance has made a budgetary provision for these teachers in the 2025 National Budget.

“We are optimistic that the necessary funds will be released soon to facilitate these payments,” the GES stated. To fast-track the resolution process, a technical committee has been formed, including five representatives from the affected teachers. This committee is actively collaborating with GES Management and has already made significant progress.

The GES has also appealed for coordinated, unified, and consistent representation from the teachers, citing the frequent emergence of new groups with shifting leadership as a challenge in tracking concerns effectively. “Consistent representation will greatly streamline our engagement process and accelerate solutions,” the Service noted.

The GES remains committed to equity, transparency, and the overall welfare of its staff. “We thank the public for its understanding and assure all stakeholders of our continued dedication to protecting the integrity and dignity of the teaching profession,” the statement concluded.

As the situation continues to unfold, the GES urges the affected teachers to remain patient and cooperative as they work closely with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance to bring this matter to a swift and equitable resolution.
