GFA Boss confident Black Stars will compete strongly at World Cup

President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has declared the Black Stars will compete strongly and fear no opponent at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking at the launch of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Fund on Friday evening, Okraku expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, insisting the squad will not approach the tournament as underdogs.
“We will not go into the tournament as underdogs. We fear no foe,” he stated, reinforcing belief in the team’s growing strength.
He pointed to the progress made under head coach Otto Addo, highlighting what he described as “intangible assets” built over time.
According to Kurt Okraku, these qualities will be key to Ghana’s performance on the global stage.
“The intangible assets that have been put together by Coach Addo and his team will make Ghana proud,” he said.
The GFA boss also outlined upcoming fixtures as part of preparations, including a match against Austria followed by a high-profile clash with Germany in Stuttgart.
Reflecting on past perceptions, he noted a shift in mindset.
“Few years ago, if you heard a fixture like Ghana versus Germany, you would be afraid. Today we are very confident,” he added.
Okraku maintained that the team would enter both the preparatory matches and the World Cup with determination and belief.
“We will go into these games with our chest up, ready to fight for the strip and ready to change our story,” he stressed.
Looking ahead to the tournament, he singled out group-stage opponents Panama, Croatia, and England, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to compete.
“When this team lines up against Panama, Croatia and England, Ghana football will speak,” he said.
The event drew high-profile attendees, including President John Dramani Mahama, who graced the occasion alongside Chairman of the Fundraising Committee and Deputy Finance Minister
Thomas Ampem Nyarko. Sports Minister Kofi Adams was also present, as well as popular musicians Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale.
Ghana is set to play its World Cup matches in Canada and the United States, as the team prepares to make a strong impression at the global tournament.
