Ghana Gas rejects Atuabo shutdown fiasco claims says plant is in ‘reliable operations’

The Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) has rejected what it calls “shutdown fiasco claims” about the recent maintenance exercise at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant (GPP).

Management stressed that suggestions of a failed shutdown are untrue and assured the public that the facility has returned to “reliable operations.”

In a statement issued on August 28, 2025, and signed by the Head of Corporate Affairs, Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah, Ghana Gas said, “There is no truth in the so-called shutdown fiasco claims. The planned maintenance was completed successfully ahead of schedule, and the plant has since resumed reliable operations as of August 27, 2025.”

The company explained that the exercise involved the calibration of safety systems, overhauling the main transmission compressor, servicing the heat medium system, and replacing fluids based on Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) recommendations. Unlike previous years when plant restarts took at least 14 days, this year’s shutdown saw reliable operations restored in just five days.

Both the Chief Executive Officer and the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Technical and Operations commended the technical team for carrying out the shutdown successfully and proving wrong any “shutdown fiasco claims.” They maintained that the outcome reflects Ghana Gas’ commitment to professional excellence and national energy security.

Reassuring the public, Ghana Gas emphasized, “The Atuabo Gas Processing Plant is in safe and reliable operations, and we continue to supply gas steadily to power producers and industrial users.” The company urged media houses and commentators to cross-check facts before publication, warning that amplifying “shutdown fiasco claims” without verification only misleads the public and causes unnecessary anxiety.
