The Ghana Law Society (GLS) has marked a significant milestone in the development of Ghana’s legal profession with the successful organisation of its maiden Annual Conference and the unveiling of its official logo.
The conference was held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra and attracted prominent figures from Ghana’s political, legal and academic communities.
The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, represented President John Dramani Mahama at the event. Also in attendance were the Speaker of Parliament, Alban S. K. Bagbin, and Chief of Staff, Dr. Julius Debrah.
Other distinguished guests included former Attorney-General Betty Mould-Iddrisu, Marrietta Brew and Joyce Bawa Mogtari, alongside traditional leaders and eminent legal practitioners.
The event also drew leading legal academics, including Professor Peter Atudiwe Atupare, Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law, and Professor Ernest Kofi Abotsi, Dean of the UPSA Law School.
Lawyers from across the country, as well as law students from faculties nationwide, participated in the conference.
Speaking on the significance of the event, GLS Women Commissioner Anatu Anne Seidu Bogobiri Esq. described the maiden conference as an important milestone for the legal profession.
She said the event “marks a remarkable milestone in the evolution of Ghana’s legal profession and sets a powerful tone for the future.”
According to her, the Society has grown in strength, credibility and membership confidence since its early beginnings as the Law Society of Ghana (LSG) around 2022.
She described the GLS as “a vibrant and viable professional body poised to champion the interests, professional development and welfare of lawyers within Ghana’s legal ecosystem.”
The successful conference, she said, demonstrates the Society’s growing presence and its commitment to advancing the interests and welfare of lawyers.
“The Ghana Law Society has come to stay,” she stated.
