Ghana’s development depends on empowering women – Dr. Charity Binka

The Chairperson of the Women Leaders Network (AWLN) – Ghana, Dr. Charity Binka, has noted that Ghana’s development depends on empowering women.
Speaking at the press statement, Dr. Binka stated, “Ghana’s development depends on it.” This assertion emphasizes the critical role women play in shaping the nation’s future.
According to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), empowering women is crucial for achieving sustainable development goals. The UNDP notes that “gender equality is a fundamental human right and a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world”.
Ghana’s African Women’s Day celebration is one of resilience and greatness. The 2025 theme, “Rooted in Greatness: Celebrating Women of African Descent,” honors the extraordinary contributions of African women.
Dr. Binka’s leadership exemplifies this greatness. As she said, “Let African Women’s Day be more than a celebration. Let it be a turning point. Let it be a loud, unified call to action for justice, equity, and transformative leadership.”
AWLN Ghana’s efforts to promote women’s leadership are commendable. In 2024, they recognized 22 trailblazing individuals for their efforts in promoting gender equality and women’s leadership. This initiative aligns with the goals of the Affirmative Action Act, which seeks to create a just society where women and men participate equally in shaping the nation’s future.
