GHc56m paid for no internet in schools: Probe Free WiFi policy – Dr. Apaak

The deputy ranking Member of the Education Committee in Parliament, Dr. Clement Apaak has called for a thorough investigation into the government’s free WiFi policy.

This comes on the back of the Ministry of Education paying a whopping GHc56 million for internet for schools that did not have internet for as long as two years.

These schools including Labone SHS and Accra Academy that have been on private internet for years.

When The Fourth Estate sent a list of 53 schools without internet spanning 2020 to July 2023 to Lifted Logistics, the company failed to provide any information on that, stating “Busy Internet, which was in charge of this implementation at the time, has since suspended operations.”

Commenting on the development, the Builsa South lawmaker stated that there should be thorough investigations into other areas of the Free Wifi policy.
“There is a need for an investigation into the implementation of the Free WiFi policy. The investigation must include an audit of payments made so far.
“The money paid to the Internet provider for schools that didn’t have Internet must be retrieved,” Dr. Apaak stated in tweet.
