GoldBod commits GHc 5million and pickups to anti-galamsey fight – Gyamfi

The fight against galamsey is expected to receive a major boost from GoldBod.
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has pledged GHc 5 million and five Toyota Hilux pickups to support the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in the fight against galamsey.
GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi made the announcement at the maiden edition of the Mining and Minerals Convention at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. He said the support formed part of the institution’s responsibility to safeguard the environment and ensure responsible mining practices.
“The GoldBod recognizes the devastating impact of illegal mining on our water bodies and forest reserves. That is why we are committing GHS 5 million and logistics to NAIMOS to intensify the fight against galamsey,” Mr. Gyamfi stated.
He stressed that the GoldBod was determined to complement the government’s efforts to protect the country’s natural resources. According to him, tackling illegal mining was crucial to ensuring the long-term viability of Ghana’s gold industry.
Mr. Gyamfi also revealed that in addition to supporting NAIMOS, the GoldBod had allocated resources to reclaim over 1,000 hectares of degraded forest reserves starting November 2025. He noted that ecological restoration was central to the GoldBod’s corporate social responsibility.
Furthermore, the GoldBod plans to roll out community-based projects, including potable water systems, education and health facilities, and scholarships for brilliant but needy students in mining areas.
The GoldBod CEO concluded by emphasizing that fighting galamsey was not only an environmental responsibility but also an economic necessity. “Illegal mining denies the nation much-needed revenue. By working with NAIMOS and supporting reclamation efforts, we are helping to secure Ghana’s future,” he said.
