Government reviews curfew hours in Bawku, Binduri, and Nalerigu

The Minister for the Interior, acting on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has announced a review of curfew hours in three conflict-prone areas of the country. The new directive takes effect from Monday, August 18, 2025.
In the Upper East Region, curfew hours for the Bawku Municipality and its environs have been set from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am. Similarly, Binduri Township and its surrounding communities will observe the same curfew hours. In the North East Region, Nalerigu Township and its environs in the East Mamprusi Municipality will also be under curfew from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am.
Government urged Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and the general public in these areas to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them, and to resort to non-violent means in resolving disputes in order to promote peace and stability.
Alongside the curfew measures, the Ministry has placed strict bans on offensive activities. In the Bawku Municipality, there is a total prohibition on carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons. In Binduri Township, the restrictions include a ban on carrying arms, ammunition, offensive weapons, the movement of motorbikes, as well as men and women wearing smocks. Any person found violating these bans will be arrested and prosecuted. In Nalerigu Township and its environs, the carrying of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons is also strictly prohibited, with offenders facing arrest and prosecution.
