I used to change channels anytime I saw NPP on my TV – Paul Afoko

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, has revealed that he used to change television channels anytime he saw NPP officials on his TV.
Mr. Afoko said the bitterness from his suspension was so severe that even seeing the NPP on TV brought back painful memories, forcing him to avoid programmes featuring the party. He noted that the NPP’s actions against him left lasting scars that changed his relationship with the party.
Speaking in an interview, Paul Afoko stressed that switching TV channels whenever the NPP appeared was his way of coping with betrayal and dishonesty. He described the suspension as one of the most painful experiences of his political life, nearly pushing him out of politics altogether.
“After my suspension had gone through and I went to court, and the court came up with that bizarre judgment, I walked away and said, never again. I’m not going to look for any active position in party politics, because it’s a thankless job. These days, when I see them on TV, I don’t change channels. I used to change channels because I couldn’t stand the sight of people I believed were liars,” Paul Afoko said.
“I think the party is making a big mistake going for presidential primaries in January [2026]. Normally, this party goes through a renewal cycle every four years… that renewal starts from the polling stations all the way up. And after the national executive is in place, then you have a presidential primary,” Paul Afoko said.
He stressed that his concerns were not about supporting any individual aspirant. “I don’t have a favourite when it comes to who I think should become the flagbearer of the NPP. I wish them well, but I don’t have a favourite.”
