IGP shakes up police hierarchy

Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno has approved sweeping command changes involving senior officers of the Ghana Police Service, with immediate effect.
The changes were contained in an official signal issued from Police Headquarters and signed by the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, authorising the reassignments at both national and regional levels.
According to the document, the postings form part of ongoing administrative adjustments aimed at strengthening command efficiency and operational coordination within the Service. “The following command changes take immediate effect,” the signal stated.
At the national level, COP Dr Sayibu Pabi Gariba has been moved from Director-General of Technical Services to Director-General in charge of the National Police Professional Standards Bureau (NAPD). COP Iddi Lansah Seidu has also been reassigned from Director-General of Welfare to Director-General of Technical Services.
COP Dr Vance Baba Gariba was transferred from Director-General of Operations to Director-General of Research and Planning, while COP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe moves from Director-General of the Professional Standards Bureau to Director-General of Operations. DCOP Darko Offei Lomotey, previously Director-General of Research and Planning, now takes charge of the Professional Standards Bureau.
Other changes include DCOP Eric Ken Winful, who moves from Director-General of NAPD to Director-General of Welfare.
At the regional command level, DCOP Charles K. Adu has been reassigned from Central Regional Commander to Eastern South Regional Commander.
DCOP Isaac Asante moves from Eastern North Regional Commander to National Headquarters, while DCOP George B. Ohene Boadi shifts from Eastern South Regional Commander to Central Regional Commander.
DCOP George Ankomah has been transferred from Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department/Accident Response to Eastern North Regional Commander. DCOP Alex Kodjo Wowolo also moves from Director of ICT at National Headquarters to take charge of Central MTTD/Accident Response as officer-in-charge.
The signal copied all Police Management Board members and regional, divisional, district and unit commanders, underscoring the immediate operational impact of the changes.
The IGP has, in previous administrative actions, emphasised discipline, professionalism and responsiveness as key pillars of his leadership approach.
The latest postings take effect immediately, with officers expected to report to their new stations without delay as the Service continues efforts to enhance efficiency and public confidence.
