I’m here because of your UN speech – Saint Kitts and Nevis PM to Mahama

Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Terrance Michael Drew, says President John Dramani Mahama’s United Nations speech inspired his visit to Ghana.
The Prime Minister made the remarks at the Jubilee House during a military parade held in his honour, where he met President Mahama and senior government officials.
Addressing President Mahama, Drew said the Ghanaian leader’s address at the United Nations last year left a lasting impression on him and influenced his decision to travel to Accra.
“Mr President, one of the things that really stuck out to me was your speech,” he said. “There were a lot of speeches given but I particularly listened to your speech and your speech inspired me and I told my team I wanted to meet you.”
He added, “And I’ve not just met you, you have welcomed me. Thank you very much.”
The Prime Minister’s comments drew applause from officials present at the ceremony, which featured a guard of honour mounted by the Ghana Armed Forces.
President John Dramani Mahama expressed appreciation for the visit and described it as a strengthening of ties between Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis. He noted that cooperation among countries of the Global South remains vital in advancing shared economic and political interests.
Senior government officials and Ministers of State attended the meeting, underscoring what both leaders described as the importance of deepening bilateral relations.
Drew’s visit is expected to focus on areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment, education, and cultural exchange. Ghana and Saint Kitts and Nevis have maintained cordial diplomatic relations, and the visit signals a renewed commitment to collaboration at both regional and international levels.
The Prime Minister’s public acknowledgment of President Mahama’s UN speech highlights the growing influence of Ghana’s diplomatic engagements on the global stage.
