US Embassy reveals availability of over 2,000 visa appointment slots

The United States Embassy in Ghana has announced over 2,000 B1/B2 visa appointment slots available in the next two weeks for travelers to the U.S.
In a post on X, the mission encouraged applicants to secure earlier appointments for business, tourism, or family visits.
“If you already have a U.S. visa appointment for later in the year, consider moving it up now,” the embassy advised.
The announcement comes ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The tournament, dubbed “United 2026,” will feature 48 teams playing 104 matches across 16 host cities, with 11 of those located in the U.S.
The embassy reminded prospective travelers that international visitors must hold a valid visa or travel authorization to enter the United States. “A match ticket does not guarantee entry,” the post stated.
Fans from non-visa waiver countries, including Ghana, are required to apply for a standard B1/B2 visitor visa. The process includes completing the DS-160 form, paying a fee of approximately $185 USD, and attending an in-person interview at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
The embassy said the additional slots aim to accommodate increased demand, especially from football fans planning to attend World Cup matches. “We have more than 2,000 visa appointment slots available in the next two weeks for B1/B2 travelers — whether you’re planning a business trip, visiting family, general tourism, or wanting to watch the World Cup!” the post noted.
Applicants are encouraged to visit the embassy’s visa page at gh.usembassy.gov/visas/ for guidance on scheduling and requirements.
The U.S. Embassy emphasized that early planning is key for ensuring timely visa approval before the global sporting event, reflecting both the high demand for travel and the importance of compliance with U.S. entry regulations.
