Interior Minister renews curfew in Bawku and its environs

Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka-Mubarak has renewed the curfew in the Bawku Municipality and its surrounding communities following advice from the National Security Council.
The Ministry announced that the revised curfew will run from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., effective Monday, November 24, 2025.
The renewal was carried out through an Executive Instrument after a review of the security situation in the area.
According to the Interior Minister, the extension forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain order as tensions persist in parts of the Upper East Region.
The Ministry noted that the decision was informed strictly by security assessments and the need to safeguard residents while authorities continue to monitor developments.
The government appealed to all stakeholders, chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth, and residents, to remain calm and exercise restraint despite the challenges facing the area.
The statement urged communities to avoid actions that could inflame tensions and instead embrace peaceful and non-violent approaches in addressing disputes or frustrations.
Authorities stressed that cooperation from local leaders and residents is essential as peace efforts continue. The call for restraint, according to the statement, is aimed at preventing further escalation and ensuring that community engagements contribute to restoring calm.
Meanwhile, the Ministry reiterated the total ban already in force on the carrying of arms, ammunition and offensive weapons within the Bawku Municipality and its environs.
The renewed directive emphasised that the restrictions remain necessary to support security operations in the area.
The government reminded residents that compliance with the curfew and adherence to the ban on weapons form part of broader measures aimed at stabilising the municipality.
