Kristo Asafo dismisses Adwoa Safo gunshot reports as false

The Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana has dismissed reports that former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo was shot during Sunday’s incident at its Kwabenya premises.
The mission, in a statement issued on June 21, said circulating claims suggesting that Adwoa Safo sustained a gunshot wound were inaccurate and urged authorities to conduct an impartial investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
The statement, signed by the church leadership, said, “We categorically reject these allegations as false and misleading. To the best of our knowledge and based on information presently available to us, no such shooting occurred.”
According to the church, the incident began after a lawful event was being held at its premises when Adwoa Safo allegedly drove her vehicle into the entrance gates.
It stated that she struck two metallic gates, causing substantial damage and creating a dangerous situation for worshippers and invited guests who were gathered near the entrance.
“Our verified information is that, she struck her vehicle against two metallic gates, causing substantial damage to both structures,” the statement said.
The mission added that security personnel stationed at the venue intervened solely to prevent further escalation and safeguard lives.
“Their actions were directed solely toward preserving public safety and preventing injury to attendees,” it added.
Earlier reports had indicated that unidentified gunmen allegedly opened fire on Adwoa Safo’s vehicle near the residence of her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, amid growing tensions over the succession process within the Kristo Asafo family following the death of Apostle Emeritus Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Witnesses had alleged that armed men, purportedly acting on instructions from Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, fired about 15 rounds of ammunition at the vehicle, with one bullet reportedly grazing the former lawmaker near her neck before she was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, police have arrested six private security personnel in connection with the incident. The suspects have been transferred to the Police Headquarters in Accra to assist with further investigations.
The latest development comes against the backdrop of ongoing disagreements over who should succeed the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, a process that has already become the subject of legal disputes among some family members.
The church has appealed to the public to avoid relying on unverified social media reports and allow law enforcement agencies to establish the facts through due process.
“We therefore call upon the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into all aspects of the incident,” the statement said.
