Mahama awarded honorary doctorate degree in South Korea

President John Dramani Mahama has received an honorary doctorate from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea.
The Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Public Administration was conferred on the Ghanaian leader in recognition of his contributions to national transformation, economic development and democratic governance.
The honour formed part of President Mahama’s official engagements in South Korea and was announced by the Ghana Presidency following the ceremony at Yonsei University.
The university acknowledged President Mahama’s leadership in public service and his role in strengthening democratic institutions in Ghana, as well as his commitment to policies aimed at improving economic growth and governance.
Receiving the honour, President Mahama said the recognition represented more than a personal achievement and symbolized the relationship between Ghana and South Korea.
“This honour you have bestowed on me today is one that I accept on behalf of all the people of Ghana as a symbol of deep respect and mutual admiration that exists between our two countries,” he said.
President Mahama also expressed appreciation to the university community and reflected on the long-standing cooperation between Ghana and South Korea in areas such as development, technology and education.
In a moment that drew warm applause from the audience, the Ghanaian leader addressed the gathering briefly in Korean, expressing his pleasure at receiving the recognition.
His remarks in the local language were met with enthusiasm from attendees, highlighting the cordial atmosphere that characterized the ceremony.
President Mahama further used the occasion to stress the importance of strengthening relations between the two nations, noting that the partnership between Ghana and South Korea continues to expand through cooperation in multiple sectors.
“May the friendship between Ghana and Korea continue to grow deeper and stronger,” he stated.
The honorary doctorate adds to a list of international recognitions for the Ghanaian president and reflects the growing diplomatic engagement between the two countries as they explore opportunities for collaboration.
