Mahama clears 2023/2024 arrears 65,685 for teacher trainees

The President John Dramani Mahama-led administration, through the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF), has paid the outstanding teacher trainee allowances for the 2023/2024 academic year to a total of 65,685 students.
The payment is for all 46 Public Colleges of Education in the country.
In a statement dated April 10 2025, Chief Executive Officer of the Students Loan Trust Fund, Dr Saajida Shiraz disclosed that the three-month arrears have been fully settled by the President Mahama’s administration.
“The payment is in consonance with the fund’s mandate to facilitate access to financing support for tertiary education students in Ghana. It also aligns with the government’s reset agenda – which includes deliberate and intentional efforts to strengthen support systems within the education sector and ensure uninterrupted academic progression for our future leaders”, the Statement said.
According to her, the SLTF remains steadfast in ensuring timely, transparent in providing an efficient financial support services delivery for the benefit of students.
“Robust measures are being implemented to guarantee the consistency, reliability, and seamless execution of all future disbursements in full alignment with established policy directives”, she added.
The Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) was established in December 2005 under the Trustee Incorporation Act 1962, Act 106 with the objectives of to provide financial resources for the sound management of the Trust for the benefit of students and to help promote and facilitate the national ideals enshrined in Article 25 and 38 of the 1992 Constitution.
