Mahama heads for Davos Economic Forum

President John Dramani Mahama has left Ghana for the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, after scheduled engagements linked to the Accra Reset Initiative.
A statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government, said the President departed Accra on Sunday, January 11, 2026, beginning an official trip that will take him first to the United Kingdom before proceeding to Switzerland.
According to the statement, President Mahama will hold meetings in the United Kingdom with coordinators of the Accra Reset Initiative, a framework championed by Ghana to advance dialogue on global debt restructuring, development financing, and fairer economic governance for developing countries.
The Presidency explained that the engagements form part of broader diplomatic and economic efforts aimed at repositioning Ghana within ongoing international conversations on economic recovery, sustainable growth and global financial reforms.
Following the meetings in the United Kingdom, President Mahama will travel to Davos to participate in sessions of the World Economic Forum, which brings together world leaders, policymakers, business executives and development partners to discuss pressing global economic and political issues.
The statement noted that the President is also expected to hold several bilateral meetings with selected world leaders and key stakeholders on the sidelines of the Davos Forum.
These interactions are expected to focus on investment opportunities, energy security, development cooperation and Ghana’s economic reset agenda.
Government sources indicate that Ghana’s participation in the forum comes at a time when the Mahama administration is pursuing what it describes as a renewed economic diplomacy strategy, following recent steps to stabilise key sectors of the economy, including energy and public finance.
The World Economic Forum is regarded as a major platform for shaping global economic priorities, and Ghana’s presence is expected to offer the President an opportunity to project the country’s policy direction, attract investment and strengthen international partnerships.
The minister said the trip underscores Ghana’s commitment to active engagement with the international community on issues affecting global and national development.
President Mahama is expected to return to the country after completing his engagements at the forum and related bilateral meetings.
