Mahama leading with 53% in 2024 polls: Let’s eschew complacency – Dr. Apaak to NDC
The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak has advised the rank and file of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to be complacent ahead of the 2024 general election.
This comes on the back of former President John Mahama leading in the latest polls by Global InfoAnalytics on the 2024 general election with 53%.
With almost eleven months to the elections, John Dramani Mahama (JDM) leads in the poll with 53.2% while Dr Mahamudu Bawumia (DMB) trails on 29.6%. Meanwhile, Former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen (AKK) who defected from the NPP to run as an independent candidate under the “Movement of Change” had 7.7% support of voters.
While John Mahama latest poll figures resulted in a significant rise from the 48.3% he garnered in a similar conducted in October 2023, Vice President Dr. Bawumia saw a marginal climb from the 28% he recorded in the same period with Alan Kyerematen’s 7.7% being a significant drop in the 11.3% he was projected to get from the October poll.
Commenting on the polls, the Builsa South lawmaker stated that considering the posture of the Electoral Commission (EC) the NDC must put in more hard work in order to win the 2024 election convincingly.
“Regardless of what polls say, we must not be complacent.
“Given previous experiences as well as the posture of the EC and it’s very composition, we must work harder, stay focused and be vigilant. We must protect the votes of Ghanaians as JM has assured,” Dr. Apaak stated.

In a related development, John Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer, declared in his 2024 New Year message from his Tamale residence that government appointees found guilty of abusing public trust through misconduct will be subjected to the full force of the law.
He emphasized his dedication to combating corruption and eradicating poor governance.
Mahama asserted his commitment to ensuring the responsible and ethical utilization of the nation’s resources.
“I firmly believe a transparent and accountable government is essential for building trust and confidence in our institutions. We would hold to account members of this administration who have abused the public trust by misconducting themselves in office.
“But more importantly, we would also allow unfettered space for the anti-corruption agencies to deal with anyone who abuses the public trust under my administration. By strengthening anti-corruption measures, promoting good governance, and upholding the rule of law, we shall create a fairer and more equitable society where everyone can thrive,” Mr. Mahama stated.
He continued: “We will reduce the size of the government in our bid to cut down on expenditure. We will combine ministries and remove government agencies that duplicate each other. In other words, we in government will also tighten our belts.”
