Mahama reflects on anniversary of presidential comeback

John Dramani Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has marked one year since his return to office with a message of gratitude and an assurance that the Resetting Ghana agenda remains firmly on course.
In a statement released on Saturday, he recalled the intensity of the 2024 polls, saying he remembers “the anxiety, the hope, and the unwavering faith of millions of Ghanaians who stood in those voting queues, determined to reclaim our future.”
Mahama praised Ghanaians for entrusting him with the mandate to rebuild the country, noting, “You believed in the promise of a #ResettingGhana agenda. You trusted in our collective vision to ‘Build the Ghana We Want’.”
He directed special appreciation to members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing them as “the heartbeat of this victory,” and commended polling agents whose vigilance ensured the integrity of the election. “*You were our eyes and ears, our ‘own referees’… Your vigilance turned the tide,” he said.
Mahama highlighted what he described as deliberate attempts by the previous administration to undermine the electoral process, emphasising that the NDC’s strategic preparations prevented any subversion of the people’s will.
“You anticipated every move, countered every scheme, and ensured that the voice of the people could not be silenced,” he stated.
Reaffirming his commitment to inclusive governance, Mahama pledged that his administration is building a country where fairness overrides partisan considerations.
“We are building a Ghana for ALL our people, without discrimination, without exclusion, without favouritism*,” he said, adding that *“The Ghana We Want is not a dream deferred but a promise in progress.”
He assured citizens that the Resetting Ghana programme is advancing steadily under his leadership and that of Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang.
John Dramani Mahama won the country’s presidential election after his main opponent, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, conceded defeat.
The defeat in Saturday’s election ended two terms in power for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) under President Nana Akufo-Addo, marked by Ghana’s worst economic crisis in years, involving high inflation and a debt default.
Bawumia said he called Mahama, of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to congratulate him.
In his message of reflection, Mahama also urged NDC supporters to remain steadfast, stressing that the ultimate reward lies not in political appointments but in national transformation.
“Your reward is in the Ghana we are building together… where justice prevails, and where hard work is rewarded,” he remarked.
He ended by assuring citizens that his administration will continue pushing forward with his reset agenda.
“The journey continues. The work goes on.”
