Mahama rescues former Black Queens goalkeeper

Touched by the sorry plight of Memunatu Sulemana, a Former goalkeeper of the Senior National Women’s soccer team, the Black Queens, Former President John Mahama has gone to her rescue by getting her a decent accommodation at Dansoman in Accra.

He is also providing her with a start-up capital to enable her venture into a business of her choice to enable her live a decent life befitting the status of a Former National soccer team goalkeeper.

The plight of Memunatu was brought to the fore by Ohenenana Kwame Osei, a journalist with Metro TV and Original TV who first published her plight on social media after visiting her at her home on hearing about her plight. Her home, which is in Kaneshie, turned out to be a ramshackle wooden structure which revealed that the former ace goalie was living in squalor and poverty. She sleeps on a table with no mattress.

A sombre Memunatu explained to the journalist how life had been for her since she was hounded out of the national team and how she had to spend all she had earned in taking care of her diabetic mother leading to her having no place to live and compelling her to make do with her current place of abode, one not fit for human habitation.

Lady luck smiled on the former National soccer team goalie yesterday when her plight was brought to the attention of the former President; Mahama immediately decided to go to her rescue by first getting a decent place for her to live in. This resulted in a one bedroom self-contained house being secured for her at Dansoman. Memunatu is scheduled to collect the key today. The Former President is today also giving Memunatu an undisclosed amount of money to enable her begin business of her own so she can make ends meet.

Memunatu was all tears with joy when she was told about what the former President is gifting her and amidst tears, thanked him for his kind heart.

The former goalie was one time the nation’s favourite in women’s footballer. Her heroics in post for the Black Queens sent the Black Queens to the World cup. She was one-time the goalkeepers of the National women’s under-17 team, the Black Maidens.
