Majority mourns fallen comrades in deadly helicopter crash

The Majority in Parliament has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic loss of eight distinguished Ghanaians in a helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

In a statement signed by the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, the Caucus extended its deepest condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the victims. The incident, described as a devastating blow to Parliament, Government, the Armed Forces, and the entire nation, has plunged the country into mourning.

The crash occurred on the morning of Tuesday, August 6, 2025, near Sikaman in the Adansi Akrofuom District. The victims were aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter, which was traveling from Accra to Obuasi. The aircraft reportedly lost contact with aviation authorities shortly after takeoff. Authorities later confirmed that all eight individuals on board perished in the crash.

4. *Dr. Samuel Sarpong* – Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
5. *Mr. Samuel Aboagye* – Former Parliamentary Candidate
6. *Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala* – Pilot
7. *Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu* – Co-pilot
8. *Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah* – Crew member

The Majority Caucus described the victims as selfless individuals who dedicated their lives to national service. “Their untimely and tragic demise is a devastating blow to Parliament, the Government, the Armed Forces, and the people of Ghana as a whole,” the statement read.

Hon. Mahama Ayariga, in the release, noted that the sacrifices, patriotism, and commitment of the deceased will forever be etched in the country’s history. He joined the President, Members of Government, and all Ghanaians in expressing heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, urging the nation to honour their memory by upholding the values they stood for.
