Man found dead with gunshot wounds in Nkwanta South

A 36-year-old man has been found dead with multiple gunshot wounds at Keri in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.
The deceased, identified as Thomas Adon, was discovered after security authorities received reports of a fatal shooting incident in the area, prompting an immediate response from a joint Police-Military team.
According to information released by the Ghana Police Service, the security team was deployed to the community on June 8, 2026, to assess the situation and commence investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the body of the deceased lying in a pool of blood. Preliminary observations indicated that he had sustained several suspected gunshot wounds.
As part of ongoing investigations, security personnel conducted a search of the area and recovered a number of items believed to be relevant to the case. These included a piece of wood, 15 spent cartridges and five live BB and AA cartridges.
The recovered items have been retained as exhibits to aid the investigation.
The body of the deceased has since been conveyed to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Mortuary in Nkwanta, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Following the incident, members of the Joint Security Team met with chiefs, elders and relatives of the deceased to express their condolences and provide assurances that every effort would be made to uncover the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The security officials pledged to conduct a thorough, impartial and professional investigation aimed at identifying and prosecuting those responsible for the crime.
Residents of the community were also advised to remain calm and cooperate fully with security agencies while investigations continue.
Authorities further cautioned against any acts of retaliation that could escalate tensions in the area, stressing the importance of allowing law enforcement officers to carry out their work.
The Joint Security Team has appealed to members of the public to volunteer any credible information that may assist in identifying and arresting the perpetrators.
Police say investigations are ongoing and efforts are underway to track down those behind the fatal shooting.
