Nyinahin Catholic SHS teacher arrested over viral student assault video

A teacher at Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School in the Ashanti Region has been arrested following the circulation of a viral video that allegedly shows him physically assaulting a female student on campus.
The incident, which has sparked widespread public concern and condemnation, prompted swift intervention by the Ghana Education Service (GES) and law enforcement authorities after footage of the altercation surfaced on social media.
The arrest was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Daniel Fenyi, who disclosed that the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate has commenced investigations into the matter.
According to him, a detailed report on the incident will be submitted to the headquarters of the Ghana Education Service upon completion of the investigation.
“The Nyinahin Catholic SHS teacher seen in the viral video fighting a female student has been arrested! The regional education directorate is investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to HQ,” Mr. Fenyi stated.
In a subsequent update, he revealed that the student involved in the incident had also been taken into custody as part of ongoing investigations.
“Student of Nyinahin Catholic SHS seen in viral video fighting with a teacher arrested with the teacher. Both are undergoing medical examination for any potential harm on themselves. Investigations continue,” he added.
The viral footage, which has been widely shared across social media platforms, appears to show a heated confrontation between the teacher and the student in the presence of other students and witnesses.
In the video, the teacher is allegedly seen striking the student multiple times before reportedly lifting and throwing her to the ground. Individuals at the scene can be heard pleading with him to stop and reminding him that the person involved was a female student.
Witnesses in the footage are heard urging restraint, while the visibly agitated teacher is alleged to have responded by questioning whether the student herself was mindful of her conduct.
The circumstances that triggered the confrontation have not yet been officially disclosed by either school authorities or the Ghana Education Service. However, unconfirmed reports suggest that a disagreement relating to hostel fees may have preceded the incident.
The Ghana Education Service says the Ashanti Regional Education Directorate is conducting a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the altercation and determine the appropriate course of action.
Meanwhile, both the teacher and the student are reportedly undergoing medical examinations to assess any injuries or harm resulting from the confrontation.
The incident has reignited discussions about student safety, disciplinary procedures and professional conduct within Ghana’s educational institutions.
