Man remanded over alleged murder of girlfriend at Kasoa

The Amanfrom District Court has ordered a 35-year-old man into custody for allegedly killing his partner.
The Amanfrom District Court, presided over by Her Ladyship Emelia K. Abruquah, has remanded a 35-year-old man, identified as Bra Sammy, into police custody for one month over the alleged murder of his girlfriend.
The victim, 26-year-old fashion designer Mabel Asantewaa, was reportedly killed last Wednesday at Kalabule Chinese near the Kasoa tollbooth in the Ga South Municipality. The incident has left residents of the community in shock.
Police investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly demanded sex from Mabel, who declined because she was on her menstrual cycle. The refusal reportedly triggered a heated disagreement that escalated into the fatal attack.
After the act, Bra Sammy allegedly ingested a poisonous substance in an attempt to take his own life. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment and, upon regaining consciousness, led investigators to the crime scene and pointed out the knife believed to have been used.
In court, the accused pleaded guilty but was remanded to reappear on October 19, 2025, while further investigations continue.
Meanwhile, the court in Tarkwa ruled against the teenager after he admitted stealing the phone.
The Tarkwa District Court Two has sentenced 18-year-old Bright Atanga to 18 months in prison for stealing the mobile phone of a University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) student. The ruling brings closure to an incident that drew attention in the mining town earlier this year.
In delivering judgment, the Tarkwa Court noted that the student had confessed to the crime and therefore handed him the custodial sentence. The case involved the unlawful snatching of a UMaT student’s phone, which prosecutors said was taken in broad daylight.
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Adwoa Yeboah, told the court that the complainant, Samuel Dontoh, a businessman at Nkamponase, reported the matter after Atanga was apprehended. She explained that the convict lived in Cyanide, both within the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.
