MASLOC retrieves three government cars from Wontumi’s residence

The state asset recovery drive has reached the Ashanti Region, where three government cars were recovered from Chairman Wontumi’s residence.
Three government cars have been retrieved from the residence of Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, as part of a nationwide exercise by the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) to protect state property.
The Chief Executive Officer of MASLOC, Abigail Elorm Mensah, confirmed that the recovery of three government cars was carried out with support from National Security operatives.
She emphasized that MASLOC’s operation was not targeted at any individual but formed part of its broader mission to reclaim state assets from defaulters.
According to Mrs. Mensah, the decision to retrieve the cars from Wontumi aligns strictly with MASLOC’s operational guidelines.
“I have gone with National Security operatives to the house of the Chairman of the NPP in Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi. Three cars. In fact, the cars were five. We’ve retrieved three. I have collected all from his house. We are still chasing him for the two. He has to pay for them,” she stated.
The MASLOC boss explained that the recovery effort underscores the Centre’s determination to protect government assets and ensure that beneficiaries who misuse loans or state vehicles are held accountable. She stressed that MASLOC will not compromise on its responsibility to safeguard resources meant to support small businesses and vulnerable groups.
Mrs. Mensah further revealed that MASLOC has identified other cases where government cars and assets have been misappropriated. She said such cases have been reported to the police to ensure that culprits face the law, insisting that protecting state property is central to her leadership mandate.
She reiterated that MASLOC beneficiaries who default on repayment or misuse vehicles must either return the assets or settle their obligations. “Our mandate is to protect government property, and that is exactly what we are doing. Anyone who has misused or failed to return state assets will be pursued,” she said.
