Maxwell Agbambilla calls for peace in Bawku amid renewed stability efforts

The Managing Director of Trust Logistics Ltd. and legal counsel to the Zugraan Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azorka II, Mr. Maxwell Agbambilla, has called on the youth of Bawku from all factions to embrace peace as a critical step toward development and long-term stability in the area.

Mr. Agbambilla made the call at the Samanpiid Youth Carnival of Kusaug, held ahead of the 38th Annual Samanpiid Festival, scheduled for Monday, December 29, 2025, in Bawku.

Addressing the gathering, he stressed that peace remains the foundation for progress, urging the youth to reject violence and support efforts aimed at restoring harmony in the Kusaug Traditional Area. He noted that the protracted conflict in Bawku had been resolved through the Otumfuor-led mediation process, and called on all factions to respect and uphold the outcomes of the mediation in the interest of lasting peace.

Mr. Agbambilla further highlighted the government’s GH¢1 billion revitalisation fund earmarked for the area, describing it as a major opportunity to accelerate development in Bawku and its surrounding districts. He urged residents to support their leaders to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative, stressing that peace and unity are key to unlocking its full benefits.

He also commended the youth of Kusaug for their calm and responsible conduct since the mediation results were announced, noting that their comportment has contributed significantly to the renewed atmosphere of stability in the area.

Reiterating the government’s position on the mediation report, Mr. Agbambilla stated that Naba Asigri Abugrago Azorka II “is and remains the legitimate and recognized chief of Bawku,” and urged all stakeholders to respect traditional authority and the rule of law.

Several dignitaries were present at the event, including Hon. Mahama Ayariga, Majority Leader of Parliament and MP for Bawku Central; Hajia Laadi Ayii Ayamba, MP for Pusiga; Madam Lydia Akanvariba, MP for Tempane; Hon. Ebenezer Alumire Ndebilla, MP for Zebilla; and Hon. Issifu Mahmoud, MP for Binduri.

The Samanpiid Festival is a major annual harvest celebration of the Kusasi people of the Kusaug Traditional Area. It is observed to thank God for a successful farming season and is marked by traditional rites, drumming, dancing, feasting, and rich cultural displays. The festival brings together people from Bawku, Zebilla, Binduri, Pusiga, Garu, and Tempane, as well as visitors from other parts of the country.

The theme for the 38th Samanpiid Festival is “Effective Enforcement of Law and Order: The Key to Sustainable Peace in Kusaug.” The Special Guest of Honour for the celebrations is His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana.
