Military deployment is to intimate citizens for purely political gains – Dr. Apaak

The Member of Parliament (MP) Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak says the government’s deployment to border towns is partisan-motivated.
This comes on the back of the Minister of Defense, Dominic Nitiwul in a joint address with the Minister of Agriculture announced plans to deploy the military to the northern parts of the country to enforce a ban on exporting grains including rice, maize, and soybean.
This is in response to the severe drought affecting food production in the country.
However, in a tweet, the Builsa South lawmaker raised several questions about why the government decided to deploy the military and not allow immigration and customs to do their work.
“With no documented evidence of grain smuggling, gov’t has suddenly decided to deploy the army at our borders to prevent grain smuggling?
“In any case, don’t we have customs and immigration officers at our borders? Is it not their duty to prevent smuggling, if any?” Dr. Apaak asked.
He continued: “Have grain smugglers overwhelmed the customs and immigration officers at our borders to warrant the deployment of the army?
“We can see through this partisan-motivated deployment. This attempt to use the military to intimate citizens for purely political gains must be resisted. NOT this time. Arise! Arise! Arise!”
